I read in the local paper about this two day festival sponsored by FaithHouston called CityFest. Fresh out of photography school and desperately looking for work to develop a portfolio, I decided to volunteer my photographic services to FaithHouston. I told them I would do a journalistic approach and photograph the festival over a two day period. I also offered that I would give them some images in exchange for media credentials. Truth be told, outside of needing to build a portfolio, I had another motive. I was hoping to meet one of my favorite artist. The newspaper paper listed Wynonna Judd would be performing. Needless to say, FaithHouston agreed on my terms and I shot over 5000 images in a two day period. The festival was amazing. A few days after the festival, FaithHouston wanted me to submit some images directly to Texas Monthly Magazine, resulting in a December 2006 issue publication. I always say never miss an opportunity. Volunteering may not have paid the bills, but it did get me to meet Wynonna Judd, a publication in Texas Monthly, and an experience that I will never forget.
In this gallery are the images I submitted to Texas Monthly Magazine. They picked 2 for their 1 page article. I was so thrilled and very thankful for the opportunity.
